About

To a Higher Level (TaHL) is my platform to help people work and live at a higher level of impact.

I write, speak, and consult in two primary areas: Work TaHL and Live TaHL.  Work TaHL focuses on the business side of life.  Over the past 30 years, I’ve written eight business books and spoken to hundreds of audiences around the world on leadership, business, and professional excellence.  Live TaHL looks at the personal side of life.  I have much to share on the lessons I’ve learned (and mistakes I’ve made) in such areas as family, personal growth, and faith.

I also am co-host of a weekly business radio talk show, “Taking Care of Business.”  Along with my co-host, Robert Kimball, Founder of PayDayPEO, we focus on sharing practical, powerful, and profitable ways to grow any business.  I invite you to listen to our live streaming simultcast on WCOA Pensacola every Friday morning at 9:00 AM CST.  You can also download the podcasts of our shows by visiting the Radio tab of this website.

Shared Platform

TaHL is more than just my website.  It is also a shared platform for a highly select group of experts, speakers, and strategic alliance partners to share their wisdom, insights, and business-building concepts with you through keynotes, workshops, guest posts, and interviews.  My future vision is for TaHL to become THE digital “hub” for how to move yourself and your company from success to significance.

Please visit Our Partners link on the home page to learn about out great alliances.  Rest assured everyone listed meets my highest criteria of character, professionalism, and courtesy.  And they have to be nice people, too.

Short Bio

I began public speaking in the 5th grade at Optimist Oratorical contests in Bardstown, KY (my Dad was President of the local Optimist Club).  I enjoyed it so much, I joined my high school’s speech club, and continued into college by earning a B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in Speech Communication with a concentration in rhetoric, public address and small group dynamics.

Upon graduating with my Ph.D. from the University of Florida (“Go Gators”), I moved to Denver to begin my “corporate fast track.”  After a short stint with the University of Denver in their Career Placement Office, I was recruited to a manage the nationwide recruiting and management training function for a $500M regional home builder, manufactured housing, and mortgage banking company.  From there I  was recruited to become the manager of a multi-million dollar branch of a national truck transportation & leasing firm with a unionized mechanics shop.  After successfully turning around the branch performance, I  moved back to  Florida and joined the headquarters of a Fortune 500 firm.  With 40,000 employes across 1,700 locations, I led the leadership and management development functions for this well known retailer as well as dabbled in internal operations consulting across their eight divisions.

After ten years on this corporate “fast-track,” I decided to step out and open my own independent speaking and consulting firm.  With no clients and no real business plan (yeah, I really did this – can you believe it), my wife gave me 18 months to get it right or go look for a real job.  Now after writing eight successful business books, delivering hundreds of keynotes and workshops, and over 20 years of working with some of America’s best-run companies, Brenda continues to joyously reminds me, “Remember, honey, you’ve still only got 18 months!”
