Every leader needs to choose their leadership compass, a set of criteria they use to point them in the direction they desire for themselves and their companies. Many of today’s Christian business leaders have made the choice to base their compass not on today’s popular business magazines, books, or blogs, but to base their leadership compass on the Bible.

Here is our first list of today’s top Christian business leaders blogs and why we like them. We had three simple criteria to make this first list:
1. Weekly (minimum) contributions – not from a sporadic or infrequent contributor.
2. Business – focused content – not a daily devotional for there are plenty of those around.
3. Quality of Writing – certainly a somewhat arbitrary criteria, but these blogs have consistent depth of thought, relevancy, and practical application for for-profit, privately0held, Biblically-based firms. (our core market).
Top Christian Business Leader Blogs
So, here are our recommendations for top Christian business leader blogs as of 1/28/13 listed in no particular order.
Hugh Whelchel and his contributors at the Institute for Faith and Work Economics offer thought-provoking analysis, commentary, and discussion on very relevant issues facing all of us in business today. Consider this the Harvard Business School blog for Christians.
Mark Bilton, Founder of Called to Business, posts short (2-3 paragraph) blogs that speak to both the business and personal side of Christian leadership. If you like quick reads, follow Mark.
Kevin McCarthy, founder of On Purpose Partners, publishes a terrific video blog that nails key issues we all face with humor, inspiration, and practical application. I encourage you to visit Kevin’s many business offerings and subscribe to his blog.
In his fascinating blog, Shrinking the Camel, J.B.Wood poignantly explores the challenges of integrating the spiritual and business sides of our lives (in his own words) “minus the cliches, presumption, and pretense.” If you can relate to a deep-dive into a leader’s spiritual walk sprinkled with fascinating video interviews of Christian business leaders, J.B.’s blog is for you.
Chris Patton’s blog, Christian Faith at Work, is a fascinating blend of a personal awakening to being a Christian business leader with short, easy-to-read and digest lessons on how to be a better leader and steward. I particularly enjoy Chris’ 3-part series on important topics – keeps me coming back for more.
Several years ago I had the extreme honor to spend an entire evening with Ken Blanchard 1-on-1. Ken and I were speaking at the same event, and while eating dinner watching the NCAA basektball tournament, he shared with me his then fresh vision for the Lead Like Jesus business. Now Ken and his many contributors are living his vision including a great Lead Like Jesus blog. If you are a big fan of Ken as I am, you’ll want to subscribe to this blog.
